Karkarook Park
I live around the corner from the park but haven't got around to fishing there yet. Figured I better get around to it before the school holidays end, when I'm able to visit on weekdays and not have to worry about the crowds you get on weekends (I've seen that there are only a couple of 'jetties' you can fish from).
I know that it's recently been stocked with trout but I'm guessing it's also home to a few redfin and carp. What's a good go-to bait to use in this lake? Obviously I'm mostly interested in trout but, really, I'm happy if anything more exciting than a rock or weed takes my bait. I've heard people mention powerbait (I think that's it). Is that one of those manufactured baits that comes in a block? Is it a frozen or shelf stable product? Or would I be better off with, say, worms?

Re: Kakarook Park
For the stocked trout power bait is best. You can buy it in a small jar from most tackle stores. Look for Rixters posts about the Tarago to find his recipe for home made powerbait. Otherwise use spinners and you are a chance of getting redfin or trout. Good luck.

Re: Kakarook Park
i'm almost there everyday , the trout that just releases will take a while before they will hit lures
but if you want best bait for it as what that bloke said ^ Powerbait at bigW or if your keen pellets work well .
if your targeting Redfin , it will take anything i caught many on stupid things , heres a picture of my friend

Re: Kakarook Park
I've been there a few times, took my little sister who caught her first trout there. We used berkley trout nuggets. One guy had a lot of success with berkley trout doh, best used with small treble hook. Once i was there one bloke kept on pulling decent size carps one after the other. A running sinker down to a swivel attached to 30-40cm of flurocarbon leader works a treat as the nuggets/doh floats.
I don't exaggerate... I just remember BIG.

Re: Kakarook Park
Any reason why newly stocked trout take a while to warm up to lures? Is it because they're (I'm guessing) raised on a diet of processed pellets?

Re: Kakarook Park
Many carp in there. You see them rise on dusk.
Pink power bait is the go to if you want to cheat. But many wade there and fish lures.
