Bad conditions pay off
Hey all,
Haven’t written a report in a bit, so hears one from yesterday.
Got ready to go down to the locale channel yesterday morning at around 12am. Decided to bring 3 rods this time- 2 bait and one soft plastics rod.
Got to the channel at 3:06 pm and set up. I put both bait rods in, one paternoster rig and one sliding sinker rig both baited with corn kernels. Conditions were bad, the water was flowing fast and there was 19kmph wind. This made it hard to detect bites and also just annoying. I ended up moving spots to the other side of the channel, where I proceeded to get no bites.after a while I walked around 140 metres down the channel to my favourite carp spot to try my luck.
I put both bait rods in and started getting bites on the paternoster rig. I took the running sinker rig out after a few hours and started throwing around a Tasmanian devil grub in banana shock colour. It got snaged and when I was making my way back to my bait rod it got a big bite which hooked itself. The fish took off on a long run and started heading up channel. Luckily I put my landing net in a good position and was able to fight the fish and bring it into the landing net smoothly.
The carp was fat for its size and measured 60.5 cm and 3.5 kilo. This is the usual size of the carp and that spot and they seem to fight harder than other carp of that size. Left at 6:12 pm, Overall great trip and I cannot wait to get back.
Cheers,

I went carp fishing yesterday, haven't done it for 25 years. I just used a bit of bread on an unweighted line, they just kept picking it up and dropping it, lol

Sounds like a fun trip, the best rig for carp I have found is a paternoster rig, light sinker. Yeah carp do tend to bite like that so I just let them hook themselves.Seniorfisho wrote: ↑Sun Apr 02, 2023 9:59 pmI went carp fishing yesterday, haven't done it for 25 years.
