Williamstown on kayak
Went to Williamstown on kayak this morning, launched off Williamstown beach and towards footy ground.
Time fished: 7am-9:30am
Wind: 5-10kmh NE
Moon: 15% full waxing crescent
Tide: high 4:30am, low 11:30am
Barometer: 1017-1018
Sunrise: 7:40am
Water wasn't brown but wasn't clear either. I couldn't see my lure after 1m in. Was hoping to get a squid or two and use some for bait for kgw, that plan failed when I found the water clarity wasn't great.
1-3kg rod, 2500 reel, 10lb line, paternoster #6 baitholder, servo pipis and raw chicken as bait.
2-4kg rod, 2500 reel, 10lb line, 1/8 jighead #1/0, various plastics (zman slim swimz, gulp nemesis, shad, etc).
Water was glassy, very nice to be on a yak. Moved around 3-6m water, saw arches mid water and heaps more on the bottom. Then it was like pinkie pinkie pinkie, more pinkie, they took anything we put there. They even took plastic with the rod sitting on a rod holder doing nothing. Mostly 23-27cm.
A guy on a yak caught 50cm salmon trolling hardbody. Those mid water arches could be salmon.
My mate caught three 29-30cm pinkie and a red mullet. I caught a ling. Otherwise, it was all undersized pinkies. Was nice and good fun though.

Re: Williamstown on kayak
I swear I thought it was a rock cod, and my mate told me it was a ling. First time I caught it.
Nah I haven't. Now that I know it's a rock cod and not a ling, lol. First time I caught it.
Any tips on how to prep/cook it?

Re: Williamstown on kayak
Would’ve been a great morning to be on the water. My mates fished princess pier this morning (I’m from regional so couldn’t join them), they had a similar report: dirty water, small pinkies and salmon, with comfortable conditions

Great eating mate. Fillet and crumb I find the best. You won't get cleaner white meat!

Well done Seb.
That’s a rock cod for sure. I caught a few of them yesterday as well. Heaps of undersized pinkies around but I still managed to bring home 9. Couldn’t have been better conditions on the water!
Cheers
