Beating the bugs.
What is everyone's preferred way to counter the dreadful sea lice that devour baits in minutes sometimes?
I use hardy baits of a night, chunks & heads, but they still seem to make short work of them. I've heard fresh squid lasts a bit longer.. but for me i never do any good gummy fishing when i use squid, its always the blood baits. Anyone have any tips that work for them to combat the buggers? Was out on Sunday and got a nice little 5kg gummy before sun down, but after that it was on with the lice..
Would love to hear what some of you guys do to battle them of a night... cheers

Re: Beating the bugs.
Less weight, keeping baits well above the bottom and zero berley. Nothing is foolproof, not even a person's foot at a beach when it comes to lice

Sometimes can't avoid them.
As you say hardy baits or squid is best.
And avoid night fishing

Had all kinds of trouble with these things in the past. Really annoying. Most times have been at night. Hard to avoid. Had no choice but to pack up and leave. Sometimes a small change in location has worked for me.

Re: Beating the bugs.
Some say to wrap the bait with bait mate
If using a running sinker rig we use a small water bomb balloon, blow it to thumbnail size and pin it to the hookthru the top which lifts it off the bottom but the sinker stays down
This does help

Re: Beating the bugs.
Anti crab rigs help.. they have little float beads near the hook to suspend the bait a little higher..

Re: Beating the bugs.
That's exactly what I'd recommend bud. The bait doesn't need to sit right on the bottom for gummies. Maybe experiment with 1 rod first. 2...3...4ft dropper and see if it makes much of a difference. It's worth a crack.STriplett1997 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 20, 2019 8:36 pmHaving a longer dropper from the ezy rig should lift further off the bottom anyway. AppreciHe the comments cheers guys
