Not sure about LB, but by boat in western port cleeland bight, coronet bay and hastings are all effective spots.
Shimano Sephias, Daiwa Emeraldas or any of the Japanese top of the line brands are all good to use. Colours depend on time of the day, water clarity, lighting etc etc. Good to have an assorted range

Mate if you like to flick some plastic or squid jigs, give Queenscliff harbor a crack. My last visit wasn't too productive but a relaxing location to have a cuppa if fishings a bit slow. That place can be dead one day but the next day could be very good. Nice salmon along with thumper silver trevaly or the occasional pinkies upwards of 50cm have been caught. When your bored throwing plastic you can switch to squid jig and land some squids if they're around. Your best time is around high tides.

While on the subject and without needing to create a new topic, where does everyone get their jigs? I'm currently buying them from my cousins shop, but things like squid jigs are quite expensive there as he can't make them down for me unlike higher priced things (rods and reels) so they are around $22+ each for a 3.0 sephia
Surely theres somewhere only where you can buy bulk at around 15 each?

I've read other posts about this Rui character, is that his name or just the brand of his jigs? Or both :/ ?CarlG wrote:Check out Rui on ebay.Kimtown wrote:While on the subject and without needing to create a new topic, where does everyone get their jigs? What are they like in quality? Comparable to the top shelf jigs?

Rui is on face book, he has ebay listings linked to his face book pages..
He who has the most fishing rods WINS !
Re: Squid Fishing Locations & Gear
Rui is his name and he's named the squid jigs after himself.
The jigs are off very good quality, much better than when he first started making them and at $9 each they work very effectively. He has them extensively tested before they hit the market and you know they are good when the charter guys are using them as well. I use his jigs as well as Yamashita's and Shimano's and predominantly in size 3.0. In shallower water I find 2.5 effective for anything from bait sized squid through to much larger variants.
