Re: First Yarra Cod
Well done! Both on the fish and also building your own canoe. You should be proud of both achievements.

Re: First Yarra Cod
Thanks all, I'm still pretty stoked.
I built the canoe over the course of a month in October, using a plan from Michael Storer for his "Quick Canoe". Amongst other reasons I chose it because it can fit the whole family, still be easily paddled solo and is stable enough to stand up and paddle or cast in.
Here is its maiden voyage:

I mostly launch it on the Yarra by pushing it on a little canoe trolley through the local parkland, but it's already come down to Anglesea and out on Anderson's Inlet successfully.

No, between the Banksia St bridge and Plenty River is where I got the cod - Bulleen/Heidelberg area. The video is at Fairfield boathouse where I launched for the maiden test voyage in November.BIG GAV wrote:Is that Yarra bend park?? I'm quite suprised u found a cod so far down the system if it is!!

Re: First Yarra Cod
I take the kayak down the yarra a lot, still yet to manage a cod from the yak yet, had 3 from bank so far biggest at 56cm. Yarra is a hard flog to get results from lures.
Where do find is the best spot to launch a kayak along that section, under banksia st bridge?

I mostly paddle upstream of the Banksia St bridge; if you launch there, the highest you can go before needing to portage is the platypus riffle run just below Salt Ck (right where the Heidelberg Footy club clubhouse is). For Plenty River to Salt Ck, Sills Bend is probably best (behind the Heidelberg footy ground), but you really need a trolley to walk it down from the carpark.laneends wrote:I take the kayak down the yarra a lot, still yet to manage a cod from the yak yet, had 3 from bank so far biggest at 56cm.
