Squid grounds St Kilda and Elwood
Hi All
I'm looking at starting to launch from St Kilda and Elwood ramps over next few weeks. Have never been to those areas or fished port phillip before. Hoping to pick up some squid as a starter. I have a 3.8m tinny
Is there a decent chance of squid close by? Or should I go around to peninsula?

You can get squid straight in front of StKilda Marina, but it's not very productive to be honest.

Brighton is ok at times, the more you travel south the better it gets, squid prefer very clean / clear water.

Yea I’ve also tried that spot many times but usually only get 1 or 2. There are much better spots further south like hornet said.

You could launch at St. Kilda and head over to Williamstown. Excellent squid fishing to be had there.
Im not too sure about the capabilities of your boat, but its only about 3nm across and at 15 or 20 knots this will only take you about 10 minutes. Its usually a fairly sheltered passage unless its blowing from the south.. in which case you probably wouldnt be out anyway.

The only thing better than serenity is a two stroke at full throttle!

If your not in a boat you’d have to cast out a fair distance (plus they won’t let you into the boat storage area.GregExplores wrote: ↑Wed Apr 08, 2020 11:54 pmwow! is it common to get them there during the day? I have been looking for a local squid spot since I don't own a car haha.

Re: Squid grounds St Kilda and Elwood
damn, has anyone every caught squid at Williamstown beach or north point boat ramp? They look like there might be squid since there is a-lot of seaweed beds. Point oromond next to st kilda also looks ok but i think it is really shallow.Mattblack wrote: ↑Thu Apr 09, 2020 10:19 amIf your not in a boat you’d have to cast out a fair distance (plus they won’t let you into the boat storage area.GregExplores wrote: ↑Wed Apr 08, 2020 11:54 pmwow! is it common to get them there during the day?
