Re: Learning to spearfish - Victoria/PPB
Yeah im not really too worried about sharks. I know they are there and it is a risk.. but so is getting swamped by a rogue wave or more likely hit by a jet ski.
There are multiple videos of Great Whites swimming near surfers at Tuncurry beach, which is probably less than a kilometer from where i used to spearfish.

The only thing better than serenity is a two stroke at full throttle!

Wondering if anyone could provide any recommendations for
- good equipment to purchase as a beginner
- safe places for initial dives (thinking Mt Martha)
- places that'll do lessons/courses
If you want to join there will be around 4 of us if that adds a bit of comfort for you

oooh really appreciate the offer, but I'll be at the usual 9-5 unfortunately... not to mention I haven't picked up any gear yet! I'm tossing up a yak/dive gear atm.Kimtown wrote: ↑Sat Nov 16, 2019 9:58 pmDiving Monday cape schank for crays, abs and whatevers dumb enough to swim in front of my spearwhambamsam wrote: ↑Sun Oct 06, 2019 4:40 pmBeen curious about taking up spearfishing since I like both snorkelling and fishing.

Yeah not great vis considering from your shoulder to spear tip would be about 1.5 to 2m long. At least you bagged some abs
