Just got the hook 7
Only have very, very basic sounder knowledge.
Having a hard time working out what's fish, what's weed and what's nothing basically lol.
Any guides, videos, tutorials etc. on how to set up the sounder perfectly so I can actually eventually sound up snapper?

Re: Just got the hook 7
so i've looked at a few guides and what not, but i'm still finding it hard to distinguish actually what is what. on the traditional sonar, everything looks like fish.. i assume the sensitivity is out of whack, because the whole screen is lit up...?
also what angle is ideal for the transducer? atm mine is sitting at a flat 0 degree. should it be aiming down slightly? i find it hard to get bottom even slowly cruising at 8-10km/h...

Basic summary: if you see boomerang shapes on the sounder then they are fish.

There is so much going on in that picJarvi2001 wrote:Basic summary: if you see boomerang shapes on the sounder then they are fish.

I assume the big clutter in the middle is a school of bait fish and the arches are bigger fish rounding them up? What's all the noise up the top?

Re: Just got the hook 7
you will need to be out on the water and give the sounder a good run, to get familiar with what your seeing, im still trying to work mine out 100%, but generally snapper should show up as an arch .
all depends on how the transducer has been installed as well, if thats not installed properly then kiss everything else goodbye.....

Check the installation manual to start with.
Learn about your transducer eg frequency, beam angle, power as these will help you along.

Re: Just got the hook 7
Ok I'm 99.99% sure my transducer is installed properly, I think the device being on auto-sensitivity makes the device too noisey and difficult to figure out exactly wtf is going on with the screen. Also I think maybe my transducer could angle downwards like 20-25 degree, rather than sitting dead level.
