Any squid landbased spot around here?
Hi all,
Normally i be spending winter fishing for bream, or surf/lake fishing (when i'm in mood to drive far).
Otherwise i'm keen to fish for squids.
The usual spots (mornington/queenscliff) are generally 1.5 hr+ drive.
Wonder if there is any landbased squid spot around top west end of PPB? St Kilda probably max east end.
I'm not fortunate enough to have a boat. There is always financial issue.
Bream fishing slows down with so much rain discolouring the water a lot.
Yarra and Marybrnong are chocolate like my morning hot milo.

Re: Any squid landbased spot around here?
Yes i heard about squid around Werribee but on a boat.
I've been to mordi and beaumaris with not much luck :'(
Brighton breakwall?
Plenty of punkies there but never thought of squid.
Btw, went to docklands last Sat. Was cold and water was dirty.
Nothing on lures, few small hits on chicken (small bream?).
Couple decent hit on whole bluebait but no hookups (probably pinkies).
Really keen to find new metro spots.

I have seen plenty of good size squid landed from the Brighton Rockwell over the years.Seb85 wrote:Yes i heard about squid around Werribee but on a boat.

Altona off the rocks at low tide around the bend on the esplanade between millers rd and surf st. kayakers often pick up squid there. rocky bottom so a good cast with\ afloat could work. Needs a low tide to get out to edge of rocks though

If you wade out and stand on the rocks there, that spot is also great for pinkies as well. But snaggy though.

Yeah I found altona rocks a bit hard to fish.
Losing lures/rigs more than catching anything.
Good squids from Brighton!
Its gonna be a nice weekend, i might give either or both Brigton and Altona rocks a try!
Thanks fellas
