If it as effective as they say then lets hope they do get the clean up right Or else there is gunna be a mighty stink on !4liters wrote:The article I read has Pyne saying the reason for waiting to 2018 is so they can work out a plan to deal with all the dead carp. Most of the money allocated to this project seems to be for the clean up too. Good to see they're putting a bit of thought into it.

Re: Carp Virus
Even if it doesn't a few months of stinky waterways is probably worth it if it gives the natives a chance to fight back.

Re: Carp Virus
Does anyone know if this method has been used in any other country's as much as I'd like to see carp gone I'm abit worried cause we don't have the best history when it comes to introducing one pest to kill another

Re: Carp Virus
It would be a disaster if it somehow transferred into natives.Fishomicko wrote:Does anyone know if this method has been used in any other country's as much as I'd like to see carp gone I'm abit worried cause we don't have the best history when it comes to introducing one pest to kill another

Re: Carp Virus
If anyone wants a chuckle have a listen to Barnaby Joyce talking about this in parliament today. CAAARP!
It's gone through Europe and Asia without affecting anything other than carp and the CSIRO have apparently done plenty of research seeing if it infects natives here. One of the scientists quoted today reckons it doesn't even affect goldfish which are a really close relative of carp so something totally different like cod or whatever should be fine.Fishomicko wrote:Does anyone know if this method has been used in any other country's as much as I'd like to see carp gone I'm abit worried cause we don't have the best history when it comes to introducing one pest to kill another
