Re: NBN help!
Do your research in whilrpool forum.... you will get all different telco as sub categories in this forum :
http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/
To be simple.... you want speed and reliability (and customer service if you have problem), go for Tier 1 telco like Telstra and Optus but they are pricy.
Follow by Tier 2 like iiNet and TPG ...... then the rest are tier 3 (What telco in what tier is contentious..... these are jsut my opinion) ......
Ultimately, you pay what you get....... and depend on what you want to use for.... for your case..... sounds to be light user, go for cheapest.... unless you do lots of movie streaming like Netflix, then you probably want something abit more stable and unlimited quota

Re: NBN help!
Thanks for the replies. I may start with the 25/5 option with TPG. There is an option of not having to lock into a contract although you then have an initial fee. One question, I will be getting the option with a phone. In regards to the phone, if the internet speed slows during peak times...will this effect the phone?

That will depend. By The looks of it, you will be on VoIP phone if with TPG. Most of time you won't be affected, but maybe occasionally slight lag in voice (not that you will notice much).Rod Bender wrote:Thanks for the replies. I may start with the 25/5 option with TPG. However, be aware. If Internet is down for you for whatever reason, your VoIP phone will not have phone function either.

Re: NBN help!
All voice services offered over the NBN will be VoIP. The network capacity required for voice services is reserved so there is no contention between data and voice services. Basically you won't be impacted by peak times.

Re: NBN help!
The guys above are correct in regards to VoIP services on the NBN. Be aware, your phone will be connected via your modem and therefore next to your NBN equipment usually so be mindful of where they install it!

Re: NBN help!
Also, 150kbps of bandwidth is reserved for your phone service at all times. This is higher than normal VoIP services (typically 56kbps).

Re: NBN help!
Thanks for the help guys. I had an 'incident' with my current internet provider, Dodo, and let us say the pic shows my feelings after a phone call to them regarding some issues! So now I am 'internetless' unless freeloading as in this case! Hopefully back online with some regularity soon!
