Boating ethics
I don't have a boat and rarely fish on a boat (charter, etc.), Just landbased and kayak.
Does this normally happen? Especially during hot session such as this ting or when snapper is hot.

Re: Boating ethics
The distance those boats are away in the pics is the normal when there is a hot bite on
Most people are day trippers and dont know what they are doing anyway
The good thing is the more boats around the more burley goes into the water

Re: Boating ethics
Absolutely Denis. Fish are like seagulls after chips. The more bait and Burley in the water the hotter the bite. I invite people to anchor close. Just so long as you can cast in. Most times you don't have to cast far. If you are working shallow water and throwing Burley, then you cast where you threw it. Maybe 10 Mtrs from your boat. So if someone is 20 MTRS away and throwing Burley they are assisting you to work the fish up.
There's nothing . . . absolutely nothing . . . half so much worth doing as simply messing around in boats.

Re: Boating ethics
Good to know, so it's not always all bad.
On kayak, I don't mind another kayak or two close to me.
But not a boat that's too close, coz they create swells when they come/go, cwn be dangerous when too close. Often they don't realise that.

Re: Boating ethics
The same as people who scream past you to anchor 50mt away, I love it when they do that I up anchor and scream past them doing a sharp turn the look they give you.
Not a lot empathy sometimes on the water

Everyone's different I guess.

Re: Boating ethics
...then you have the "kayakers know where the fish are" dopes. Just come up close and anchor a few meters away.
and - foreigners in hire boats, should not be allowed.

Re: Boating ethics
I don't mind the boats anchoring close when I'm in the yak, sometimes you get a bloke just taking the **** and parking where you're casting though which is a annoying.
In terms of safety in yaks with the wake/swell from boats, in my opinion it's just part of being on the water and kayakers need to prepare accordingly. The simplest (but least adhered to) way is to get a kayak that can handle it, which usually means getting something a little bigger and more expensive than the typical pool toys you see out and about. Yes you can (and should) dress up in safety gear and so on but you've probably lost all your tackle if you ever need that so it shouldn't be your first line of defense.
