what are your thoughts on carp, red fin and any other kind of pest fish?

for me, its a love hate relationship. i love the fight carp give and there easy to catch but there bad for the water way and any carp i catch don't go back in alive. :bn:
haven't caught a red fin yet but have heard they are good eating and great to catch. Although the are pest people still return them to the water, why? :ft:

also gold fish, there in the water ways :rf: . has any one ever caught one? did it break the line? hahahah

There’s been a welcomed shift in Australia with fisheries investing in natives so unless people cannot travel I don’t know why they would target introduced pests. On the upside those who do can help kill a few vermin.

Introduced species Ok for people to target but not release & on the plus side a few are not too bad to eat.

agreed, though i didn't put trout because although it is an introduced species it doesn't really affect the water ways, correct me if I'm wrong

Probably going to be an unpopular opinion but I rarely kill carp when I catch them.

For a couple reasons.

1. If I catch a carp 99% of the time it's a closed lake/pond system that's chockers with them and it's the proverbial pissing in the wind.

2. There's never anywhere to dispose of the dead fish. Leaving em on banks will just lead to someone's dog eating or rolling in the rotting carcass or whatever.

3. I Fucken hate getting covered in their stank haha. So I barely handle em. Net. Pull out hook with pliers. Release. Leave net in sun for a few days to lose its stank

If I fished the Murray or other systems on the regular I'd no doubt have a different opinion. But generally speaking where I catch em my decision to kill or release 3-4 carp a year won't have any effect on the population.

their stank is bad but if you just cut their spinal cord they die instantly and you just throw them back in for the animals and other fish to eat them. after i catch a carp i have to do a big gear clean the next day. i haven't had to burn any cloths but the stank is bad.

River blackfish common galaxias I have no doubt trout compete for habitat and predate on other native fish species.

No but it’s not a competition for what’s worst they all have their impact. Still am an avid fly angler.
