Casting out far with light jig heads

Hey,

I've just started fishing 2 months ago, got my self a Shimano Sedona XT 7' 4-8 kg / 5000 and some tackle.
Been out a quite a few time, have only caught a small bream with bait (undersize:() at princess pier a few weeks ago but wanted to get into soft plastics, ive been trying to use them and been researching the techniques but i cant seem to cast out any far than about 1 metre with a worm or curly tail on a 1/8 jig head, i usually just put on a 1 or 2 once weight on a running sinker rig but the plastic doesnt swim properly and ive never got any bites any tips to cast far with light jig heads, thanks

You want to get a lighter setup to be casting lighter weights

try getting yourself 2-4 kilo setup and a 2500 size reel , will serve as a good light tackle allrounder

As smokin_reels said, to cast light, use light setup. Everything gotta balance, makes a lot of diff.

For me, the best setup to cast 1/8 jighead is a 2-4kg rod, 2500 reel, 10lb braid line, 10lb leader line. You will feel the diff.

What you use there is probably good to cast 3/4oz to 1 oz jighead. The line matters too though. A thick 30lb mono wont be as nice as 20lb braid line to cast.

Are you using braid? If so how many lbs is it?

yeah its 20lb braid, ive tried 8lb mono and 30lb braid but nothing

Light, high quality braid and good casting technique will help no matter what your rod and reel looks like. Having said that, if you're bream fishing you probably want a lighter setup.

The hardcore breamsexuals around here would probably go with 6-8lb braid and lighter fluorocarbon leader.

having a nice light rod also helps, i use a 1-3kg catana with 8lb braid 8lb fluorocarbon leader and i can cast 1/8th oz jigheads 20 or so metres with no wind

I use a 1-3 kg rod paired with a 2500 reel spooled with 4 lb braid and 6 lb fluoro leader. I have a size 1000 reel that I spool with 4 lb braid aswell and it flies when ajing. Mad fun, also surprisingly solid if you hook a decent fish, just don't grab the line with your hand to lift fish because it will snap. I love plastic fishing more than bait, get on to it mate and goodluck

18lb braid and 4-6lb leader. It's the diameter of the braid not the breaking strain that counts
