The Boof Diary Fishranger

Post by rb85 » Thu May 02, 2019 6:44 pm

Hey all I messaged Truedogz after he placed his report asking if I could post his fishing days and see what produced particularly when it came to barometer and moon phase I am yet to analyse the data collected but thought I would post it anyway and people can see if theres any obvious patterns
From the brief observation as I was searching through Wills fishing days Barometric pressure didn't have a huge bearing on success neither did air temp although I only entered the forecast temp so there will be a few variances I collected all my data with Murchison as the location and the nearest weather station is Shepparton but I don't believe it will have a huge effect on the barometer. Other info thats not in there that I believe could have an effect is rainfall, water levels and water temp. The other part that makes it hard to find a pattern is Will is targeting larger cod using larger lures which as he said resulted in a significantly lower number of captures for the season but more larger fish Will also mentioned "Night fishing prefer no moon. For twilight fish evenings just after a full moon I do well. In shadows you can catch them in daylight." We can see if the weather observations give much away I will post it as Will posted his reports and will try and sift through it and re-post when I have time.

Hummm.. i noticed most of the boofs happened when the barometer drops a quite significant numbers. The no boof days either slight increase, steady or a slight drop.

I read Rod Harrison's book the other day, that often a frost morning indicates a cold weather is coming, hence they need to pack up calories before the hibernation to then to breed and all.
The rapid drop in barometer also mentioned. It might give a signal to cods that storm/cold is coming, hence pack up some calories.
But barometer could possibly only affects shallow water, deeper water won't be much affected as the water pressure comes in factor. Those cods mostly on shallow water and therefore hit surface.

Pretty cool theory.

Not in relation to Cod (but it stands to reason being the same), but I have heard the same theory for Saltwater fishing too.

I've experienced some crazy hot bites with schooling types of fish (snapper, whiting) hours just before a storm. But that's how it's panned out , , , , I'm not a storm chaser, I tend towards being a "Fair Weather Fisho".

Oooow, I think my Hot Chocolate is ready :)

Cheers, Bugatti

The hot bite before the storm is also mentioned in his book. He guessed that fish aren't easily able to adapt to sudden light change. That sudden change in light condition blurs the smaller fish, hence a perfect condition for ambush predators like murray cod.

Another cool theory. I enjoyed the book.... And I think I will make a hot choco too :-D
