Went out last wed, 11/2/15, got out early before the wind came up, main target was gars, but, as it happened, not a trace, so plan B quickly came into effect when I noticed the birds hovering and diving in off Ricketts Pont. Went over to have a look and the salmon were busting up, I quickly cast out my metal slice and hooked up straight away, then unhooked when the salmon jumped. This happened a couple of times until I finally got one in the boat. Haven't caught any salmon for a while and you forget how hard they fight, I would rate them weight for weight the hardest fighting fish in PPB. I then switched to my SP rod thinking that the SP's would be harder for them to throw, this proved to be the case but more work was needed to get a hook up to begin with. Since I could not catch any gars, squid, flathead, or reasonable size pinkies (heaps of US ones around) I kept a couple of salmon (bled them) to make fish patties, tasted pretty good as it turned out.
Cheers from
Ango.
