Paternoster to braid
Going to try land based bait fishing for pinkies / flatties.
Connecting a Paternoster rig (~1.5m overall, two 3/0 KL hooks, 20lb fluro) to mainline braid (20lb), would you go direct - ie Albright knot or via swivel?
I'm leaning towards the first option since that'd allow top part of the rig into guides to allow for better casting? There's only ~40cm up on top, but even that's a bonus since I've got a 7ft bait rod.

Re: Paternoster to braid
Double Uni Knot does the trick for me.

Thicker than 10lb I use FG, allbright, slim beauty, etc.
If your rig is about 2/3 rod length, you should still be able to use swivel and still can make good cast.

Re: Paternoster to braid
My concern is with the line twist / roll, I guess it's a non-issue with braid?
A direct link also means one rig ready to go once on the spot, plus less points of failure.
@Sebb - so used to SP/lures, I'd have to develop a new casting technique to cater for the "overhang".

Swivel is the best to prevent line twist. Without it, just gotta straighten it every now and then.

Re: Paternoster to braid
Got me thinking about a light surf rod, although not sure how it'd go lifting the catch (pier based)?
Decisions, decisions...
Anyone interested in a new Daiwa Beefstick Z 702MS to help me fund the new purchase?

Re: Paternoster to braid
I've always used double uni, from UL gear to heavier targeting snapper. Never had an issue.

Re: Paternoster to braid
I have 9ft rod 5-9kg rod. The biggest I caught on it was a 2.5kg snapper off rocks. 20lb line.
A net would be a good idea to have too.

Re: Paternoster to braid
On the cards - Daiwa Seabass 96ML / 106M - as long as it balances my Fin-Nor 40 loaded with 20lb braid (~400g weight) as a general land-based / pier outfit.Although it could also double as a light beach / rocks lure setup with Nasci 4000 (~300g).
EDIT - highjacking my own thread (and thoughts) - becoming a gear junkie I think!

Re: Paternoster to braid
I have over dozen rods and reels, and I still feel like I need to get more. Lol.
