LOCAL FISHING AND BOATING FORUMS ARE BACK FOR 2022
Recreational fishers and boaters across the state will again have the chance to discuss their much-loved pastimes at a series of upcoming Fishing and Boating Forums.
The Victorian Fisheries Authority (VFA) held several forums in mid-2021 however selected sessions were postponed in response to the Coronavirus pandemic.
VFA CEO Travis Dowling said the rescheduled forums would give fishing and boating enthusiasts the chance to share their ideas and ask questions while hearing from local Fisheries Officers, Better Boating Victoria (BBV) and a range of fisheries management staff.
“We’re excited to be heading out to local clubs again to catch up with fishers and boaters and discuss the many ways we can help make their pastime better than ever,” he said.
“Our teams are overseeing the biggest boat ramp construction program in the state’s history, consecutive years of record fish stocking, continued reinvestment of fishing licence fees and important education and compliance.
“We look forward to heading to a fishing club near you and hearing about what matters most to Victoria’s passionate community of fishers and boaters.”
Each forum will feature an hour-long presentation from a range of VFA and BBV staff across topics like better fishing and boating access, boat ramp upgrades and new fish cleaning tables, fisheries science and research, enforcement, education and many more.
Five forums have been locked in for the coming weeks beginning with a session in Ballarat on Thursday, May 12. The following week, a forum will be held at Nagambie (May 17), followed by forums at Albert Park (May 31), St Leonards (June 14) and Torquay (July 5). Details for a further three forums at Port Albert, Portland and Wodonga will be confirmed soon.
“With the subject matter experts there, you can get clarity on those questions you debate with mates while in the boat or by a river somewhere,” Mr Dowling said.
“It’s a great opportunity to throw up a project you think will make a difference in your area. Locals know their backyard the best and we’re keen to hear and discuss plenty of ideas.”
