Re: noobie to bream
Metro bream on lures is always been tricky for me. I wrote few posts about it. You can search it.
Short story is, you gotta finesse it. Go small, go super light, super slow retrieve, super lightweight stuff, thin long leader, etc.
If it was bait, peeled raw prawn on a running sinker and a small hook will do.

Re: noobie to bream
Yeah, coz those supermarket prawns are imported. So who knows what overseas diseases they may carry.
Any raw prawns (peeled) about 1-2cm on a #2 hook will do the job. Those from servos or tackle shops will do.
Put near pylons etc, they love to hug structures.
When you can see them mid to top water (especially summer-autumn), you can use float rig too. Similar to garfish rig but slightly bigger hook.

Re: noobie to bream
Unweighted prawn left to drift down under a moored boat, pier, pylon, etc. it’s fun fishing but you gotta hang on and use a tight drag. Gotta fish light for good presentation but you’ll likely lose a few fish to bust offs if you’re not really quick. Can even sight cast to them on a perfect day (and they’re biting).
Usually local caught prawns are my preferred, live is even better. Can get your own or sometimes buy from tackle shop. Otherwise any old bait prawn from a packet is good enough to have a crack. Not supposed to use supermarket prawns for bait but I know of people who do and have impressive results on the gummy sharks.

Fairly old post but covers the basics well and has a little report to open things up

Depending on who it was and how you congratulated them it might not be that they weren't a friendly person but that they thought you were mocking them by congratulating them. For some people a bream that is around 30cm is a small fish and if thats all they catch for a session they can start to become frustrated they aren't picking up bigger models. Could also just be a real grumpy dude, either way don't take it to heart.fisho999 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 05, 2022 10:38 amreally good ones actually. a few could have been over 30 though I'm not sure.
