Albert Park short session under the moon
Just a short session around 6-8:30pm at Albert Park. Met Happyfriggincamper at the carpark, he spotted a yellowbelly but "the one you see is the one hard to catch" is true.
Checked the water, clear and low, took me 10 mins to decide the best lure to use. Maybe too long, but I like to analyse and calculate all the factors (water clarity, wind, lights, sinking rate, etc). Chose baitjunkie grub bloodworm on 1/24 #1/0 jighead. 1-3kg rod, 2000 reel, 6lb braid, 8ft of 6lb fluorocarbon leader.
1 hour in, and nothing.
Sun was setting, moon was rising (98-99%), changed to zman grub motor oil 2.5in. So did Happyfriggincamper. Slow rolling along the edge where there's a gap between the concrete edge and the weed. We both got hit here and there, now and then.
I managed to hooked one, Happyfriggincamper did the netting. Quick photos and back into the drink. Not big, but fish is a fish.
Moon, city lights, water, fishing with a mate, good enough for me. A break needed between the busy daily routines.

Always on the motor oil grubs Sebb, I like it.
And those city lights are something special when fishing at night. I love them as much as I love being out on a secluded riverbank somewhere.

Yea somehow that zman grub motor oil works for various species. Very versatile soft plastic.
Agree, watching the city lights come on while fishing sunset has its special moment.

You can't beat those motor oil grubs too, them and the slim swim style!

Re: Albert Park short session under the moon
Thanks.
Yes, slim swimz is another versatile plastic. I love the badshad colour of slim swimz for most of the bread and butter saltwater fish. Midnight oil for the estuaries.
My favourites were squidgies flickbait in plain white, bloodworm wrigler, and gulp turtleback worm pumpkin seeds.
And now, most of time I put on zman grub motor oil.
Though those squidgies are good and have their own place, but the motor oil grub seems to be a good searching lure when there's no sign of fish.

Well done Sebb, those zman grubs in motor oil seem to get a lot of fish.
Hey, I need someone to engage in a social experiment at APL, all that is needed is to fish around the lake, on the night of a full moon & record your interactions with the local "wildlife".
Cheers Gra
I think smokin had some interaction, but, it wasn't full moon.
I think he said he'd go back, on a full moon, but, hasn't

Full moon was last night.
It was about 98% when I fished. Nothing unusual.
