Chicken and or Shrimp (probably already used shrimp but it’s not mentioned) could be another alternative to try.

Most importantly just keep at it and it’ll happen eventually.
Never had much luck with cod on shrimp myself. Yellas is another story with 2shrimp plus worm combo being the standout. Have had mates catch cod on chicken (especially parmesan cheese marinated) but never actually caught one this way myself.

More than happy to just keep trying :ch: not really after that single large cod more just looking at ways to lift averages up into legal size more often

Bigger baits, bigger fish, tends to work on most species. Cheese and chicken

So been trying a few different things.
Went for a sizable chunk of cheese soaked chicken on a 5/0 hook and caught a bloody Silver Perch of 50cm. Didn't even know they got that size.

Then a bit later (different trip) had an evening rod in chasing yella or carp with a 2/0 hook and 2 small worms and jagged a 67cm cod

will just have to keep trying I guess :wt:

I catch a lot of cod in summer - most between 60-85 cm, and almost never any below that. My only tip would be to fish hard up against structure (rock or timber). I use baitrunners, but pretty much lock up my drag for the hook set, because they will be in the snag at that point.

Thanks for the tip, will give it a go.

I mainly use circle hooks. Is that what you use for this?
