Kamikaze 'Roo

Post by Whiskers » Wed Jul 29, 2020 8:16 pm

Coming home tonight on the Princess Highway after an afternoon fishing at Lake Tyers a big grey 'roo came hurtling out of the bush right in front of me.

I was doing a steady 100 kph and collected him fair and square head on.

Fortunately my bull bar did its job and sent him underneath my vehicle and not over the bonnet into the windscreen.

I haven't checked out all the damage yet but I know I've lost my headlights and spot lights, the bullbar is pushed back hard into my bonnet, lots of trims have cracked and my rhs front quarter panel is cactus.

Too dark to check everything out yet so I don't know if everything underneath the car is ok.

I'm just glad that he went under the car and not over the car and into the windscreen.

The fishing part of this post by the way was doughnuts!

you got under body bash plates? if you could still drive with no engine or transmission issues i would say your fine but best to get the front and rear drive shafts checked incase they got dented and are now out of balance.

oh fine apart from all the cosmetic damage and a pair of brown undies.

Not nice when it happens, but sometimes, there's just bugger all you can do about it.
Clobbered one while driving Doug's Patrol up to JB last November. 3.30 in the morning, doing 110km/hour up the Hume.

Gippsland has it all
Deer that Look Like Cows
Wombats that look like they came from space
Kamikaze Kangaroos

Good to hear your not injured..

ive had a roo race me on the freeway one night on my way to gippy for a fish.
for some reason i still dont know why, i was driving in the right lane. out of no where the roo jumped onto the road from my left side and then proceeded to run along the left lane at the same speed i was driving (i slowed down) it kept going for a good few minutes before jumping back into the bush...
The great alpine road is a nightmare road to drive on

I avoid driving in the late afternoon/evening because of the roos. I saw some deer on Bengworden Rd once, I don't know what type they were but they sure would mess up the car if you hit one. The section of the Monaro Hwy from Cann River up to Canberra has an incredible number of dead roos and wombats, I would not drive it after dark. In the end it is just bad luck when one jumps in front of you. Unfortunate end to a fishing trip.

wow.. glad that you are ok and only some fixable damage to the car, although still annoying.

I used to live on a farm in NSW and have hit 3 so far, but none at a high enough speed to do any damage due to my bull bar. I used to ride a motorbike too and was always worried about hitting one when coming home from work just before dark.

I almost hit a couple while towing the caravan up past Eildon last year too, i didnt even see them at first. My misses saw them and i hit the brakes at the last second. Luckily the car behind me was alert.

There's nothing . . . absolutely nothing . . . half so much worth doing as simply messing around in boats.
