Yes Mazman, but if you really wanted to highlight the fish you could leave the holder out altogether, as some posters do. I suspect that for some photographers the intention is to exaggerate the size of the fish.mazman wrote: ↑Wed Jul 15, 2020 10:36 pmIt really depends on what you want the photos for. Personally I like photos that highlight the fish, showing its colours/markings and character, how big it is is a secondary element and for the most part I'm not to fazed about exactly how big someones fish is and tbh you can usually work out the size class from the pic to a reasonable degree of accuracy even when it is being held out.
Realistic photos.

Re: Realistic photos.
Gotta ask yourself if you wanna see the fish or the bloke holding it?
Straight arm is only bad if it’s being claimed for much bigger than it is.

And people like you will the first to Judge.
How do we know its you holding the fish in the picture!!!
There is a reason the pic is taken that way, the aim is to achieve subject isolation.
if you don't understand these terms or know what it does, then its best to just enjoy the pics for what they are, or get yourself educated on why its been done like that.
Photography is an Art, not everyone gets it!!!
Anyone can pickup a camera and take a photo, these are not photos to me. They are Real Memories, fish that i caught, photographed and released to live another day!!
if the intention was to make the fish look bigger than they are, then there is no need for me to state how big the fish was.
But please dont let me ruin your day next time, feel free to not participate in any of the reports i post and just jog on!!!

Re: Realistic photos.
Simple solution, catch fish big enough you can't straight arm them.

Re: Realistic photos.
Hey purple, don't take it to heart.
I'm not you, but, I take it as stirring
Mazman & IFISHALOT both use "long arm" because their cameras are a bit away from them.
Chompers is a prime example, fish looks to be at least 2kg (could be)
The story/photos that goes with the event are much more interesting than size of fish
Adrians posts & photos are grouse. People don't really care about the size of the fish
If I 'ever' catch a fish, I'm going to photograph it as easily as possible
Cheers Gra

Re: Realistic photos.
The unrealistic standards of a fish in the modeling industry.
I think adding yourself to photo or video adds personality.
We watch all these people of youtube and social media not just for the fishing, but for the story and personality that they add.
A good photo is a good photo, editing the shot to highlight the patterns or colours is fine too. You've got to bring out the best, while keeping it al naturale.
