Well the VFA have issued a Draft Stocking Plan for comment and are planning to stock the following:
Highlights of the proposed plan are
• Record 8 million fish to be stocked this year including
o 2.1 million Murray cod
o 3.7 million golden perch
o 1.3 million salmonids
There also impressive numbers of EPs and Australian Bass.
Now to the "lowlights":
8 million fish to be stocked and just 10,000 Maquarie Perch in 2 rivers. Maccas are not easy to breed but it can be done - VFA really seem to be disinterested in the research and effort (and likely cost) required to breed reasonable numbers of this species!

Re: VFA DRAFT STOCKING PLAN
Exactly what truedogz was saying about maccas
Native fish Australia are trying to breed more
When the new facility opens in Shepparton (?), hopefully they'll increase the output of maccas

Re: VFA DRAFT STOCKING PLAN
Hi happyfriggincamper I noticed a call for submissions on the 2020 Draft Stocking Plan on FB and now cannot find it. Submissions were due by 12 June and had to be emailed to john.douglas@vfa.vic.gov.au. A link to the plan is at file:///C:/Users/HP/Downloads/vic%20fish%20stock%202020%20draft%20stocking%20plan%20(2)%20(1).pdf

Gra - we can only hope! Maccas are currently bred from mature fish caught from the wild - Dartmouth Dam and the Yarra River. They are then stripped of their eggs and milt. NFA - Vic has been doing some good work in this area. There is no brood stock retained as with the case with other species. It was reported that NSW Fisheries at their Narrandera Research Station some years ago managed to breed Maccas using some sort of "artificial stream" but this was a one-off due to lack of funding. Just leaving a stock of mature Maccas in a pond year after year does not result in breeding.
