Best fish to eat?
We've seen the worst.. how about the best?
We are extremely lucky that we can walk out the door and target KGW, Flathead and Squid without even needing a boat. IMO three of the best eating fish in the sea.
However the best of the best for me is Patagonian Toothfish (aka Chillian Sea Bass). We use it at work from time to time and this really is the type of fish that all you need to do is cook it with a little sea salt. No need for heavy sauces and flavours or a special method of cooking. But at about $100 a kilo ($350+ a fillet) you would hope it would be good.

The only thing better than serenity is a two stroke at full throttle!

I don't eat much fish but I think Reddies would be No1 freshwater and then Flatties & Bream Saltwater.

Locally caught: Kingfish. Texture, taste, cooked or raw is great. Followed by KGW, Gummy/School shark and Flathead.

Very similar to cobby.
Throw in albacore when we get em. And trout that have been feeding on yabbies.
I considered making a most underrated fish thread. To get thinking about

I found bream flesh is too soft. Breaks apart easily. I think the only way to eat bream is steamed, to enjoy the soft flesh. Frying bream can be a disaster.
Agree with redfin! Great freshwater fish to eat.
Gourami from the tropic is fantastic freshwater fish to eat too.
I just love seafood, there's too many to mention. Mostly saltwater fish though. Flathead, kgw, Atlantic Salmon. Tuna and kingfish when prepared properly are fantastic.
Shellfish like scallops and crustaceans like the king prawn and lobster, yum!
This makes me hungry.

Re: Best fish to eat?
Very much a matter of personal taste but my favourites among the fish I can catch myself are flathead, leatherjacket, whiting and squid. Looking further afield, and ignoring environmental factors, I'd throw in gemfish, orange roughy and Patagonian toothfish.
