There's two types, reagent and antibody testing. Reagent is more reliable, can indicate infection at any stage but is in limited supply and takes longer. Antibody testing was recently introduced but falls short because of the period in which you can be positive but antibody tests will not detect anything, by which if you are symptomatic it will be obvious you are infected anyways.

Re: Corona Virus Part 3
That's true. Universally the antibody tests just aren't reliable but we still purchased heaps of them despite advice from leading virology officials. Reagent tests are really the only good option but it's a shame that we are forced into these options because of limited supply.4liters wrote: ↑Tue Apr 21, 2020 12:04 pmI’ve heard the antibody tests so far have really bad specificity so the false positives are... significantcroe04 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 21, 2020 11:11 amIt depends on the type of testing. This is basically the same country wide which has both ALP and Lib governments across them.Stumpjumper wrote: ↑Tue Apr 21, 2020 9:42 amWell you must be new to Victoria too, not to have noticed what's going on. The state has shut down your jobs, ordered you under house arrest, can't go out unless for approved reason, Police can enter your house without warrant to enforce social distancing rules, no more than 2 people can gather, Chairman Dan suspends parliament....no oversight or democratic process, can't go to church, can't visit friends or relatives, can't go to the pub etc etc. Whenever the list of what you can't do is 100 times longer than the list of what you can do, smells like Socialist/Communist wet dream to me.SnapperRapper wrote: ↑Mon Apr 20, 2020 11:54 pmOh... poor Stompjumper!
I’m new here so I’m guessing your little rant is just a joke.
Can you explain to us dumb arses what ‘communist’ and ‘republic’ mean and how they relate in any way at all to our State?
Just look at what the federal government is doing whilst there is no sitting parliament......

Sure, agree with that, but Victoria has gone out of it's way to stop things like fishing, hunting, golf etc etc. Chairman Dan came out with lots of making up sh*t as you go along rules too, like the no visiting partners ban which he had to backflip on.

Fishing, hunting & golf ban is certainly illogical aka wrong.Stumpjumper wrote: ↑Tue Apr 21, 2020 1:51 pmSure, agree with that, but Victoria has gone out of it's way to stop things like fishing, hunting, golf etc etc. Chairman Dan came out with lots of making up sh*t as you go along rules too, like the no visiting partners ban which he had to backflip on.
Big picture it is a small error, a minor issue that they should have corrected rather than dig there heals in.
It will cost them dearly at the next election.
No visiting partners was a police/CHO screw up as far as I am aware.
I would much rather be in VIC than NSW.
Scomo schools are safe lie is just one of by far bigger screws ups by the federal government.

But guess what? ..... those are the measures that have saved thousands of lives! I for one am pleased that our politicians are demonstrating decisive and strong leadership for a change. You may not agree with their decisions but they are at least doing what they have been elected to do .... and that includes public safety.
Can't wait for what will be a rant-filled response

That’s a bit provocative if you ask me, stump jumper is entitled to his opinions without being judged. I don’t see what gives you the moral high ground, to be so dismissive of what he has to say, maybe I’ve misinterpreted what your trying to communicate but saying “can’t wait for what will be a rant filled response” is definitely going to arouse an aggravated response.SnapperRapper wrote: ↑Tue Apr 21, 2020 2:47 pmWell, time doesn't permit pointing out all the factual errors in your rant.Stumpjumper wrote: ↑Tue Apr 21, 2020 9:42 amWell you must be new to Victoria too, not to have noticed what's going on. I'm not judging Stump Jumper .... I don't know him. I am though making a judgement on the veracity and accuracy of his claims which are patently incorrect. I say again, the tough measures that have been introduced, as onerous as they are, have saved lives.Irishfisherman wrote: ↑Tue Apr 21, 2020 2:58 pmThat’s a bit provocative if you ask me, stump jumper is entitled to his opinions without being judged. Re: Corona Virus Part 3
Gee Jude, I think we all agree that everyone is entitled to an opinion but it counts for a lot more if its expressed in calm, "civil" language. I just don't reckon that terms like "Chairman Dan" and "Socialist/Communist wet dream" can do much to promote constructive discussion.
I'm a bit surprised that the mods have let them through.

As much as the Government is trying to manage a plethora of issues and making decisions trying to balance the bigger picture, I think (just my opinion) that the Mods are trying to do the same with this forum. It's all new territory for all of us, some of the forum members are affected harder than others and emotions & feelings are all over the place.
I for one, don't mind a little leeway, if it allows some members to vent some frustration. I would rather they let it out on here, deal with it and process it (be it not ideal) rather than taking it out on the real people in their lives, their family.
I can see that the Mods have drawn a line and allowed some form of liberal extension of the rules. But also, the Mods have taken a firm approach, as seen with Locked Threads, open warnings and deletion of some posts.
Mike, has commented on this "new" development and I'm sure would take action if required. And luckily the resilience of purple5ive, he would continue being 5teve and start Corona Virus Part 4
Regards, Bill
