Has this year been a dissapointing Snapper season?

Post by Seniorfisho » Tue Feb 11, 2020 8:33 am

I don't do much fishing for them anymore but reading reports on all forms of media as well as some very good snapper fisherman that I know it seems this year hasn't been as prolific as the past few years. Could it be the amount of rain we had earlier in the year? Pinkies seem to have taken over the bay more so than some past years, could it be that the large numbers of them even in the peak months are just beating bigger fish to the bait? Could it be due to differing currents outside the heads? What are your thoughts/

Went snapper fishing twice and caught 1x 5kg and a decent gummy the second time. (Dropped a huge schoolie though)

So it wasn’t too bad for me.

Im no pro snapper angler, but i have had the best season ive ever had in my own boat this year. all on lures, so im not sure if the bait would have increased numbers. fish weren't massive by any means(l40cm to 3kg fish) but consistency was there..

ive done well other years on other peoples boats where bait is predominantly used, so maybe this season for me is something ive been missing out on all the time, or just a fluke.
time will tell.

Gotta be at the right place at the right time.
And I haven't been.

Few trips on my yak and landbased, nothing but pinkies (under 40cm).
