And they're so closely related they can create hybrids. A pre stocking study done bit over a decade ago on Bass in a major gippsland river showed 2 of 13 acoustically tagged Bass were in fact hybrid bass/ep and the only way of knowing is via DNA test. So for all we know someone at the hatchery stuffed up and the Werribee River is stocked with bass/ep hybrids

Good to know there's quality freshwater fish close to home for people in the western suburbs. No need to drive fir hours to gipps to catch bass.
