For threading on more bait (eg whitebait for gars, mussels for Whiting), things with sharp teeth but small mouth (eg leather jackets) or to stop fish from swallowing the hook

I use them when i'm in an area that is likely to result in losing hooks down the mouths of toothies, wrasse, pinkines, toadies etc. Easier to dehook.

I’ve had a lot of luck using long shanks for targeting kgw, but have also caught flatties, salmon, gars and Lj’s
