GDay all
Gonna keep this brief due to lack of time, might do a more in depth report later on
Unfortunately in my trip to NZ because of weather and other difficulties most saltwater fishing became off the table, but fortunately that didn't stop us from going for a flyfishing outing today in the glorious weather.
Awesome day, got a lot more skills under my belt and i'm now feeling like in falling into a fly fishing addiction.. can't wait!
Ended up with 2 fish for the day, very pleased as we were fishing in one of the hardest regions of the country for very wise, strong fish in a system that had just been super flooded.
My fish was a nice 3.5lb jack brown who took the dropper nymph on a dry/dropper rig.
Might go hunt some snapper/kahawai on lures tomorrow but other than that, no more fishing this trip. I'd love to chase some other fish like kingies/trevs but logistics just don't work out which is a shame. Still very pleased with today though
cheers

Re: Fly fishing NZ
One of the best place to fly fish!
Fly fishing for trout is definitely a fun thing to do. Especially on dry.
Well done and good luck with the kingies etc.

Fly fishing is very addictive. I started on trout, as many do. These days I mainly fly fish in the salt for anything that will take my fly.

I reckon I might take it up regularly, its awesome and I love a bit of difficulty. I've heard you can get flatties/bream on fly locally, might give it a go some time, but trout would be my main target.

Re: Fly fishing NZ
Tried for bream few times. Caught some.
Metro bream are hard to catch though.
Summer is the best time. Head to Gippsland and use prawn fly.
Salmon on fly is awesome too. Fly rod action makes it fun. The line and drag control makes it challenging.
