Got here too late, was gonna say Rui rods ($300) are pretty awesome for the money. The componentry would value the rod in excess of $600. Toray Blank, TISic guides, and Fuji Seat. Its super lights and responsive and throws a jig a mile, (which I find very helpful landbased for covering ground). I also use a Hearty Rise Egi force ($359) (Dunno if u can still get them) Has a fantastic blank and balances my 2000 Certate perfectly, which is a fair effort for an 8'3" rod.
Ive felt quite a few Egi rods and they don't measure to the two above. Calamaretti, all of the Emeraldas models, even Breaden didnt impress.
What to look for?
1) Light in the hand as you're working the Jig like a mad man, and its a long rod too generally in excess of 8 foot.
2) Cast a mile, (No way to test but to have a cast unfortunately, getting that extra 5 -10M could mean the difference between reaching a reef of weed bed from shore
3) Crispness to fee the take,/ bottom feature.
