Yep, looks great in the reviews, but don’t forget that its done on a heavily tuned scenario to sell the product.
Real life scenarios/videos is what will eventually give us the proper picture.
Even on the manufacturer released videos lowrances video looks ****..
Even when the structure scan videos were released by the pro’s they looked fantastic.
But real life scenarios were chalk and cheese.
No one expected the screen to go all pear shaped if you were drifting instead of driving in a straight line, or the fact that it was useless if you were standing still or anchored.
Will have to wait till few people have used and reviewed the products properly.

With my limited research I've done so far I'm leaning towards the Lowrance Hook series, not sure which model at this stage, gps and chart plotter with wide beam will be my criteria.

I run a hook 7 for sonar and Elite 7 hdi for GPS. and don't have a issue with it.
It lies and says there's fish there or I just catch them lol.

Hey smile ... I don't have much mounting room so need an all in one unit that's fully water proof..... being a tinny exposed to weather.

Interesting info in your post explaining side scan in the link.. thx...purple5ive wrote: ↑Fri Aug 16, 2019 9:34 amwell let me rephrase my last comment then.
firstly flathead and squid, both will not show up on sounder. squid is a maybe at this stage.
if you drift or anchor while using sidescan, all you will get is long lines drawn across the screen, the boat has to be moving for sidescan/downscan to work properly.
traditional sonar will work perfectly. its because of the way the cone angles are projected.
so if your going to stay still/ move sideways(drift) sway around and come across those kinds of fishing then side scan will be absolutely useless to you. downscan will work if the boat is anchored, but might as well use traditional sonar at that stage.
if you will be sounding around trying to find structure or fish then traditional sonar and structure scan (side&down scan) will be beneficial.
heres a post i did a while ago about using sidescan
viewtopic.php?f=70&t=21920&hilit=sidescan
for the above to work, boat needs to be moving!!!
most units these days already have them anyway, so if the price difference between having it and not having it is peanuts, then id always get one which already has side and downscan.

Ok hornet will try and help you narrow down your options.
What other target species will you be targeting? Whiting, Snapper in bay/offshore it will all make a difference.

Most Sounders these days are waterproof .
Let us know what type of fishing you will be doing and I'm sure someone can suggest a few units that would work.
