The dive flag should always have been red with a fluro green dove tail in my opinion.

Re: Diver killed by speeding boat
The scuba diver who was struck and killed by a speed boat on Port Phillip Bay on Sunday was using a buoy and flag to ensure he was visible while underwater.
Two men in their 20s were spearfishing a few hundred metres out in Canadian Bay off Mount Eliza about 1pm on Sunday afternoon when one was hit by a boat.

Re: Diver killed by speeding boat
The flags on those floats aren't very big and they can be knocked over by waves so you'd see nothing more than the orange float. The cord is usually 20+m long and isn't retractable. If the grapevine is right and the boat was travelling at a brisk walking pace, it's likely he's seen the flags/floats, slowed down as the law dictates and was nowhere near the float that was attached to the person who was hit.
There's a myriad of possibilities as to why and how this happened

Re: Diver killed by speeding boat
I said it before the main dive flag for non boats is small 40x50cm or in inch thats 15.78x19.685 and remeber they are plastic aswell.saph wrote: ↑Sun May 05, 2019 11:10 pmJust remeber before blaming the diver most dive flags are only 40cm by 50cm that are most common for those not diving from a boat and boaters should also rember within 5 meters you have to be going slow aswell. this could also be a combination of issues, including a panicked diver caught in rope and accedently cutting the flag and having it drift off.

Re: Diver killed by speeding boat
The rule says to keep away 100m from a divers flag
When i see one i keep well away because even a max speed of 5kn when close if the boat runs over the top the prop would make a mess

Re: Diver killed by speeding boat
We boat off flinders a bit and we do the pick up and drop off at the low deck, and there are always divers there, most of the times with flags, but if u need to drop off or pick up how do you stay 100 M from that?
