With the warm weather and some time off I took the kids down the Yarra one morning.
Within 5 mins of my Son's line in the water, before I got mine in, he had hooked up a ~45cm carp. I am surprised his little collapsible rod didn't just explode!
Eventually I got my rod and my daughters in the water and we were enjoying the cool air. We got a few more bites, then my son hooked another. This time it was a small cod!
Then he managed to get the last fish of the day, a small Macca.
Despite having our lines in the same river, within meters of my son, with the same bait, my daughter and I didn't get anything but bites. So we decided he wasn't invited next time!
This warranted a second trip yesterday to the same spot. This time solo as the kids don't appreciate the early start.
Quickly I had some action and pulled in an eel. It is a long time since I caught one of those in the Yarra.
Then manage to get about 6 Maccas, most smallish, the largest ~30cm.
And this monster:
And to add to it all, of course a carp (~50cm):
It made for an interesting morning. Usually, all I catch are carp. It made a nice change to have a few species turn up. I've never had that many Maccas around at once either.
A bit of action on the Yarra
