TROUT FISHING FESTIVAL COMES TO EILDON
A free fishing festival celebrating the official opening of the trout season came to Eildon today.
Member for Yan Yean, and Parliamentary Secretary for Regional Victoria, Danielle Green opened the event which is a key part of the Andrews Labor Government’s Target One Million plan for improving recreational fishing – getting more people fishing, more often.
Fishing festivals at Eildon and Ballarat today proved a big hit with anglers and families, officially marking the season opening for trout fishing in Victorian rivers.
Both events are part of the Andrews Labor Government’s Target One Million plan for improving recreational fishing, which aims to increase participation to one million fishers by 2020 and get more people fishing, more often.
Ms Green attended the Goulburn Fishing Festival and toured the State Government’s Snobs Creek fish hatchery alongside several hundred visitors who learned about the breeding of trout and native fish for the state-wide stocking program.
Snobs Creek grows brown trout, rainbow trout, Chinook salmon and iconic Murray cod, and has contributed to a record stocking effort of more than 3 million fish.
That record is unlikely to last long however as Fisheries Victoria strives to increase stocking further to 5 million fish, which is a key commitment of Target One Million and one supported by recreational fishing licence fees.
Quotes attributable to Parliamentary Secretary for Regional Victoria Danielle Green “ I encourage everyone to get out there, enjoy the festival and the fresh air and see what it has to offer. Only the Andrews Labor Government is helping to get more people fishing more often because we know how important it is for regional Victoria. “We understand that active participation in outdoor pursuits is good for families, good for mental health and good for our regional communities that depend on tourism.” “Our record 3 million fish stocking effort is a milestone as we push towards releasing 5 million fish in 2018.”
