Good thread!
Few that I have never seen before and some good ideas.
Have you seen the auto strike holder? When you get a bite it springs up striking the fish lol

I've seen them, seems to take the hard part out.. Or it's a marketing scam and you'd lose a lot of opportunities.. Either way I like setting the hook myself
If I'm not fishing, I'd rather be fishing!

Quick and easy. The metalwork is from Kmart $5 each.
On its own it's just a piece of soft rubbish, but I push some 40mm pvc pipe into it and it's a lot stronger. Ive used them in Wpb in the rocky muddy beach and off normal beaches.

Re: Rod holders for Landbased fisho's
Someone on the surfcasting forum showed me a design he made for a rod holder which consisted of a pvc pipe with one of those sand tent pegs that fits inside and sticks out the bottom. It looked like a very compact and lightweight design. I'll find a picture tomorrow.

I made these a while ago and the first cod that I got while using it bent the metal rod in half. It was a 72cm cod.

I don't really fish piers anymore but one good idea is strap a pvc tube to the upright then stick a snapper rack into it.

If you can find them these are the best rod holders I've used, set at whatever angle you please, lock the rod in well and can take a big hit and not budge, they flex and load up with the rod.
Useless in sand though obviously.
