Merri Creek around Coburg.

Post by Rod Bender » Sun Apr 27, 2014 2:46 pm

Hi Peoples
I had a look at Coburg Lake last week and was surprised at the clarity of water in the creek. I know a Rainbow trout was captured in the lake a while after the carp cull and a cod was caught from the creek at some point. Was wondering if anyone has targeted the creek with lures for any success? More importantly, I assume there is good access both upstream and downstream of the lake? This way I can find out for myself - I wouldn't expect to catch trout or cod but even reddies or carp on soft plastics would be fine!
cheers
Jim

It's only clean because it hasn't rained much lately, once we get a bit of rain, it'll turn to coffee

Well if you wanna flick a few lures or plastics around, it should fish better with clean water.

The fish are normally very flighty/spooky when it's clear

Merri and darebin creeks both look like awesome trout streams as they are both usually clear but I have only ever caught carp from them, apparently a few reddies in them too and I know of the odd rainbow in merri creek.

When I was growing up there was not a lot in them but its quite possible that has changed.

I've heard of trout being caught behind the old Kodak factory but that was a while ago

Well it's got blackfish in some areas and I reckon there could be the odd trout or more likely reddies when it's clear
