Advice Needed - Float Fishing Lilydale Lake
Hello all,
I'm planning to try my hand at float fishing Lilydale Lake, and was wondering if anyone could advise on the appropriate rig setup. I have some split shot in sizes 0 and 1, some size 10 'baitholder' hooks and a couple of thin waggler floats.
At what length would you normally have the point hook from the float? The depth at the lake seems to be a fairly uniform at around two metres, and slightly less near the shore.
Any other advice of tips would be much appreciated.

Re: Advice Needed - Float Fishing Lilydale Lake
Sorry, I should have mentioned that in my initial post. I'm targeting roach and any other small fish near the margins, be it redfin, small trout etc.

Can't say much about the float but I caught a roach on the floating pontoon near the rock wall some years ago. It's the only fish I've ever caught at Lilydale Lake. It can be a tough place to fish so persistence and patience are key.

Re: Advice Needed - Float Fishing Lilydale Lake
I caught an eel there years ago, the only thing I ever caught there. Was using running sinker rig.
Redfin and trout will hit bait on a running sinker too, and carp.
Never tried with float there, but if I was to fish float in 2m water, I'd put 1m to 1.5m under float

I used to float fish a lot and have quite a few I purchased in England. You use different methods for both fish if you google float fishing there is heaps of links to YouTube and coarse fishing sites. My float rods are between 12 and 14 foot in length which helps when you have a float fixed and a drop of 6 to 8 foot.

Re: Advice Needed - Float Fishing Lilydale Lake
Thanks all, much appreciated. I will give it a try and report back to you. I've fished the lake a couple of times before and had no luck, so can see why many say that it's a challenging venue to fish.
