Type of rig for soft plastics
Hey just wanted to know what others suggest for the type of rig used in windy, strong current conditions for soft plastics when going for flathead off a beach/pier/jetty.
I've read the Texas and/or Carolina rig works well?
At the moment I'm using 1/8 jig head and need to cover more distance.

For flatties, and in big current conditions..go 3/8 or even 1/2..they feed on the bottom, and are very forgiving of technique. If I can catch them on sp's anybody can...lolPloh wrote:Hey just wanted to know what others suggest for the type of rig used in windy, strong current conditions for soft plastics when going for flathead off a beach/pier/jetty.

So no need for bean or ball sinkers along the line for that extra weight and distance?CarlG wrote:For flatties, and in big current conditions..go 3/8 or even 1/2..they feed on the bottom, and are very forgiving of technique. It still doesn't go the distance from a jetty or shoreline.Fishsniper wrote:Why don't you just use a heavier Jig head?

Monofilament but I'm thinking of using 10lb braid with fluorocarbon leaderNude up wrote:What line are you using lighter lines will cast further than heavy line from a soft plastic rod

No need for any extra sinker mate, I just use the squidy fish head shaped jig heads. Usually fish around sorrento, blairgowrie, rye area when I'm not at the gunn..
