CarlG wrote:It is actually a very interesting question, because most people who say "I can cast 100 metres" don`t have a bloody clue what 100 metres looks like. I work a lot with distance in the building game, and 100 metres is a hell of a site further than most people realise. Before anyone starts having a go, no, I`m not having a go at anyone on here, or anyone in particular. But over the years I`ve heard so much bull with regards to casting distance, it makes me laugh my arse off.
On a personal level, I reckon I cast somewhere around 80metres with my normal shore spin setup under normal conditions, that works pretty well for me, but I`m getting a new rod built, and hope with the changes I`ve specified, to gain another 15 metres or so..
Your spot on mate , 100 meters alone is a long distance !. I live on a rectangle acre block exactly 40m wide x 100m long, and 100m is a long walk !. On a good day with no wind , or wind behind me, from my frontyard ( on solid footing ground ) i have sometimes managed to land my sinker in the paddoc over the back from me (at best around 120m). Yet on a beach no matter how much wind behind me, but on unstable sand footing i have never managed more than around 80 meters , or a bit over.
Good test is pull 50/100/120 meters of line and mark the line with a permanent black texta.
I was sure sometimes I was casting 100m and over at the beach , yet i checked my markers as reeling in the spool and found many times i fell around 80m.
It's interesting how much the sand and a solid footing/and the beach wind over the waves can effect a good cast. Cheers , Rick.

Jeremy Paul Schrader and his mob regularly cast 270m+ on the field but only about 180m max I think on the beach.

If you have ever watched soccer on t.v then a full size soccer pitch is roughly 100m, a very long way. I can maybe get 60
PB- Snapper 55cm, Whiting 38cm, Flathead 55cm, Bream 38cm, Australian Salmon 55cm, Carp 80cm

Met a guy at Princes pier one night that claimed he could hit station pier with his casts... I laughed cos I thought he was joking but he replied very genuinely "I'm serious". Lol. Pretty sure he was crazy.
