Got some prawns

Post by Wolly Bugger » Thu Aug 02, 2012 7:24 pm

Bought some banana prawns with plans to use them as bait, but now I am considering cooking them up and eating them myself.

I always hear of people using prawns as bait for Gummys but have never tried them myself...

Can anyone say if they work better than something like a piece of fresh Squid or Trevally fillet??

I can't imagine they'd stay on the hook too well.

Bought some 7/0 Octopus Circles on special.

Think the prawns will fit on one of them.

prawns are almost the only bait I use for Gummies it out fishs fresh squid or fresh fish flesh ( trevs , yakka ' mullet or eel ) in the right places
those place are up on the muddy shallows in WP - nth end of the bay lang lang / jam jerrup
they do take it at the north end of the bay but the pickers - almost everything else will strip prawns off the hook

last W/E I got 2 gumbos and fishophil 5 all on prawn

the banana prawn meat does stay on the hook pretty well

by the way I also caught more snapper on prawn this last season than anyother bait - by catch while fishing for gummies
My kayak PBs
Gummy shark 128 Cm - Elephant fish 85 Cm - Snapper 91 Cm - KG Whiting 49 Cm - Flathead 55 Cm - Garfish 47 Cm - Silver Trevally 40 Cm - Long Tail Tuna 86 Cm - snook 64 Cm - Couta 71 Cm - Sth Calamari 44 Cm hood - Cobia 117 cm

How do you present the prawns? A couple of circles one at the top and one atthe bottom? Peeled or whole?
