Loop Knots - mid to heavy lines
Hi guys, I'm after some advice/recommendations on which knot to use for Fc leader to lure connections 20lb and up. I've been using the rapala and it seems to break well below even a badly tied uni in the same line.
Cheers

Tie an FG. I resisted for a long time but there really is nothing anywhere near as good.

I think he's asking for advice on lure to leader knots Dougie. I use clips mostly (decoy egg snaps - small and strong) but if not the perfection loop has always worked well for me

Re: Loop Knots - mid to heavy lines
How are you managing to break 20lb leaders on a lure??
I have always used a uni knot straight to the lure.
If running clips I've done the same thing.
Are you using a good quality leader?

Re: Loop Knots - mid to heavy lines
for loop knots i tie a lefty's loop or a perfection loop depending on application but generally i just use decoy clips

I heard Guesty say on his podcast that he uses a lefties loop knot almost all the time. I personally just use snaps.

Re: Loop Knots - mid to heavy lines
Guys..
When you use snaps you still have to tie the leader to it. So saying I use snaps isnt really helping loll.
You still need to use a knot and that's what he wants to know.

Re: Loop Knots - mid to heavy lines
No but the reason you use a loop is so the lure can wobble around without being held directly to the leader and have its action interfered with. I reckon a snap or decoy clip would allow the same sort of free movement as a loop. The knot for tying the leader to the snap wouldn't really matter.
If the weight of the snap creates new problems is a different matter though.

I remove the spit rings from the front of lures and use a snap in their place to try and retain the balance

If I were you. I would read the original post properly. Then reply accordingly..4liters wrote:No but the reason you use a loop is so the lure can wobble around without being held directly to the leader and have its action interfered with.
