3x western lakes, Krispy Kreme and Dunkin, potato cake, chicken strip and sauce.

Went to Newlyn early morning. Forecast was like early clouds turning sunny with low north wind, thought would be perfect to fish the sunrise and cloud clearing. But of course the reality gotta be totally different. Fog, strong cold wind, etc.

Got there 7am for the first light, fished on 5wt fly gear with various wet flies til 10am, aaaand nooothing... The only one having a good time was a cormorant in a distance.

Need a cup of hot coffee, stopped by Cosgrove on the way to Creswick coffee shop. This time with the new BFS gear (Majorcraft Fine Tail and SLX BFS), thought would be nice to try the BFS gear.

I was casting 3-5g lures fine with no issue, then couple dozen casts later, of course this happened...

😵😱

Imagine this: after few good casts I was casting with full confidence *WHIP!!* and I was like, "huh where's the lure?" "Where did it land??"... then *me looking down to the reel: "oh shite, fudge me, mother love of God"
The lure got snagged on a berry bush when I did the back swing.

🤦🏻

Had to cut the line, lost about 15m or so line. Was there about 1hr-1.5hr and not a single bite.

That's the Krispy Kreme and Dunkin (donuts)... 🍩🍩

Not many things better than a hot cup of coffee in winter. But one more stop before the coffe shop I thought, might as welll since we're already there. Stopped by St George's Lake, again with the BFS. A guy on a kayak said the lake was stocked couple weeks ago.

Not long til I got a follow on a small tassie devil and hooked it. Tiny trout. Changed lures and few followed but no hit. Changed to ajing style (tiny plastic and ultralight jighead), landed another three baby trout. Not big, but at least not a donut.

Finally coffee, potato cake, and chicken strip with sauce...

Definitely easier with spin, but it's more fun with baitcast. And if done right, can make much more accurate casts.

That lake is often hit and miss, very popular amongst fly fishos.

That's Majorcraft Fine Tail Area and SLX BFS reel, bought from Japan online.

The lake fishing out west can be very hit and miss. Awesome fun when you find a few but brutal when you don't. Out of interest what made you choose to go with the finetail rather than looking for something a bit longer in that bfs category

It's Fine Tail FAX-B582UL2.
When I bought it months ago, it was intended for rivers and creeks, not for lakes. Hence the shorter model. I was considering even shorter rod.

How small are the streams you plan to fish with it? I was assuming you got the 6'4 model

The usual size. Stevenson, Yarra, Rubicon.
A mate got a 5ft glass bfs rod with gekka bfs reel and it's even easier to use. Easier to cast cast 1-2g and easier to do underhand cast.
