Tough day at Purumbette

Despite the nice weather, it was tough fishing. Here's a quick report.

Went to Purumbette early morning to catch the sunrise fishing on the weekend.
Almost no wind, new moon, overcast day, clear water, plenty of weed cover, 4 of us on a yak. Various plastics and various hardbodies such as double clutch and rapalas.
Plan was to go trolling while looking at sign of fish then stop and cast.

First cast and trolling and bang! I hooked a redfin on the double clutch in 5m water. Then bang! Someone else got one too. Saw the school on the sounder. Then gone quiet. Very quiet... 2-3 hrs of trolling and casting for nothing. Saw fish on the sounder but not biting.

Got on to a sheltered bay and saw a rainbow feeding on midges on the surface. Didn't want to take hardbodies. Tried strike tiger nymph and it took it! Dropped it, then it came back, felt the shake, missed again, and back for the third right next to my yak. Same thing, no hookup. Was a small rainbow and probably grabbed the wriggly thing but missed the hook.
Then few more hours with no action. Talked to few people back on the ramp, they caught nothing.
Some snack bars, tuna sandwich and back home.

Note, imagine having one of the house along the lake there. It'd be very nice.

Cheers for putting the effort to write out a report for a underwhelming session. Felt like all the conditions were right for a few fish between us, but only ended up with those reddies which saved 2 of us from a donut.

Still want to get back there and try and have some success on the trout.

Sounds like a nice day out even if the fishing was slow.
