Clifton Springs Flathead

I get out here in the Yak a bit, the water is shallow (0.5 to 1.5-2.0m) hunting for Flathead (weapon of choice is my Shimano Catana 7 foot, 2-4Kg one piece soft plastic rod and Sienna 2500). Anyway, they seem to love the Gulp Turtleback worms and can't get enough of them, only issue is small salmon that also live in the shallows will bite the worm in half before it get's to the bottom. Flathead are great, they breed like rabbits, taste great, are simple to fillet, feed in the daytime and live in shallow water.

Most recent catch from a couple of days ago, 40 and 45cm which is about normal, haven't managed to hook anything larger.

Nice flatties, would be good fun on the plastics. If you're having issues with plastics being torn up try zmans, a lot more durable and have a good action as well.

Nice job Paul. I like that once you work it out you can reliably get flathead drifting in a yak . I use zmans because as others have said they are a lot more durable. Last week I caught over a dozen pinkies & flathead on the same zman grub and it still has it's tail in tact.

Are those small salmon your talking about size or just undersize. If size they make great bait

Mostly under size. I am sticking to the soft plastics as bait seems to attract Banjo Sharks and Stingrays.
