The Daiwa Seabass in 9'6ML 4-8kg is actually the rod I use for chasing snapper land-based, but also tacking bigger salmon on plastics and metals in the surf, and at Barwon Heads. I'd vouch for it and highly recommend it for multipurpose.
Snapper wise, I run 22lb #1.0pe braid with a 30lb fluro, 2500LT reel and never had an issue. Caught plenty of pan size and larger snapper land-based from the pier. It's also sensitive enough to see smaller fish bite, ha plenty of bigger kgw bend the tip when biting.
It's also a really light combo for throwing plastics and light metals into either the surf, or estuaries.
I've caught plenty of big salmon throwing 3" plastics, 1/4oz 3o jig heads, bay trout and trevally downsizing to the 2.5'" grub or slim swimz profile.
22lb #1.0pe, 15lb fluro 0.6pe - 1.0pe.
It's definitely a very versatile combo for land-based bait and plastics, metals, etc.
Pan sized Pinkie from December 2022
Salmon from last weekend
All on the seabass

Thanks @Andrews,
Went to see how the Seabass sizes up to my Fin-Nor 40, BCF didn't have the 96ML - so ordered it online:

Re: Paternoster to braid
I guess it depends, swivel most times for convenience of swapping rigs and prevent line twists ....
However heavier rated swivels are bulky and prevent efficient casting ...
for line to line connection the basic ones are Albright and FG

Thanks Huluman, my dilemma was casting a ~1.5m paternoster rig with a relatively short 7' rod.
One fix is a longer rod and direct braid to rig connection, so the rig ends up partially in the guides.
Yet to test the theory

Re: Paternoster to braid
Hey Sneaky,
I'd do a double uni knot, or any of the other braid to leader knots like FG etc , i only know the Uni Knot and can say i've never had any issues with it.
If you had say a 12 foot rod , and at some stage you would like to use the same rod set up but with different rigs, then i would recommend using a snap swivel on your braid, and tie a swivel on your rigs, that way you can swap the rigs over easily/quicker . I also use a heavier leader for paternoster rigs, 40 lb fluro so that my hooks don't tangle around the main line, which is another reason why i use the snap swivel to swivel rig as tying 20lb braid to 40lb fluro isnt ideal.I'm sure there's better ways to tie T knots than the way i'm doing it, but ive been doing it that for years and it works for me!
