surf fishing reel advice

Post by fisho999 » Tue Nov 08, 2022 1:54 pm

hey guys,
just wondering what a good surf reel to go on my Shimano catana would be.
The price range is under $180 but ill go $200 if I need to.
I would prefer a Shimano reel, but if there aren't any good options in my price range I will take other suggestions.
thanks,
fisho999

What's your rod spec?
And are you planning to baitfish or lure?
The reel has to match the rod and what you want to do.

the rod doesn't have a lot of specs printed on it, catana 1062 4-7kg . probably 9-10 feet. i use it for bait fishing, I have enougher rod I can use to chuck lures.

I'm with seniorfisho, go get Nasci 4000.
Put 15lb braid line on it.

The mono is a bit heavy. There are good braid options out there. While you're at Ananconda, get some 14lb Dangan braid, it's quite fine for it's rating and tie a 12lb leader on it and you've got a great little long casting all round land based rod

Yep, it's what I use on 90% of my reels, great stuff and quite cheap when they have sales
