Don’t really need them but they are more for protection against stingrays, not that they would do much.

When I was reading electricity meters in the bush, people would ask me why was I wearing gumboots on a 40° day. Simple, snakes, but they weren't in my situation.

Lol the good old dusky. See them everywhere when spear fishing on reefs.

Edit: nvm it appears you’ve already tried it. Glad you like it. Not my cup of tea although I am pretty fussy when it comes to fish. I usually stick to the staples (flathead, whiting, gummy) and don’t stray too far from that.

I’ve heard it depends on what they’ve been eating, it sort of dictates how they will taste and given that I got mine nowhere near any reefs it may of had a different diet to the ones that you caught. I’m probably the opposite to you though in terms of fussiness, I’ll eat just about anything that swims. Not to discredit my opinion, I thought it was actually really good and I only fried it so I got the full flavour of the fish. I’d definitely keep another one.
