A few ideas

Post by denis barden » Thu Jun 25, 2020 11:11 am

When berlying up with a bottom cage unit for Whiting throw a bit of bread into the water at the back of the boat to see which way the current goes and fish that side of the boat
A bit of Wipper Snipper plastic cutter crimped onto a Elect lug-Used to clean out your tell tail on the outboard-Dont use sharp wire as you might puncture the soft tubing inside the engine
Rabbit Ears never fit correctly so I built up one side so they dont leak as much-Beware Rabbit Ears can work/shake loose and I you not lookin you might be up for some dollars for repairs

Denis, good tip. Will stick some brushcutter cord in for sure, was searching for some 50 lb line to do the same job quite recently.
Unfortunately something, plastic bag?, covered the intake and I wasn,t aware till smoke(steam) showed.
Needed a tow and replaced water pump and impellor.
Generally carry small container of Nutrigrain or Weetbix to indicate tide flow, they float a treat.

great TIPS I will add one more, when we had the Marine Shop, we saw more than one outboard and sterndrive totally buggered. Because the ears were NOT removed after flushing, and stayed on at launching time. remove ears and place them over your gear/throttle lever easy to see there

Although covered, my boat tends to get a lot of leaves in it that eventually work their way down to the bungs and block the water running out. So i also use a bit of whipper snipper cord folded over to unblock the bung holes when they get blocked. I just leave it sitting in the engine well when im not using it.
